MAKING THE TEAM: This development team is 100% focused on building talent for the high school level. The best way to develop baseball talent is in a small group setting where players and coaches are working closely together. Players who make the cut and are awarded a spot on the team will be required to attend practice sessions with their coaches 3 times a week. Practice sessions range from 30 to 45 minutes and will take place at the Simi Valley batting cages. All coaches are either current high school coaches or professional instructors who know first hand what it takes to make the high school team. Players will be able to know and have a relationship with area coaches before even stepping foot onto a high school field. Who: All 7th and 8th grade baseball players are invited to try out. Only 22 players from each grade level will make the sought after development team. What: The players who make the development team will be asked to attend 3 private practice sessions each week. These practice sessions encompass 30 min Hitting instruction (maximum of 2 players per practice session), 45 min Defense practice session (max 5 players for infield, outfield, max of 2 players for pitching or catching) and a 40 min strength and conditioning session (limit 5 players per work out). Each type of practice (offense, defense and conditioning) is offered every day of the week between the hours of 3:00-5:00 and8:00- 9:30 pm to accommodate even the busiest schedules. These practice sessions will give the athlete a serious athletic advantage and growth when it comes to try outs at their local high school. Our coaching staff will treat all players with the upmost respect and set the tone as if the athletes are already in high school. If parents or guardians have serious concerns about the team please feel free to approach the coaches by phone or email. However we believe in mentally prepping the athletes for high school ball, which requires the athlete to approach the coaching staff with all baseball related questions. Maturity is a huge part of the high school development process which we must instill into our athletes. High school coaches do not and will not have time for parents to approach them and talk about issues, playing time, social issues etc. It is the players responsibility to build a relationship with their coach and show that he is having concerns. We would like to teach this process to help out athletes and students alike. them assimilate into the next level of baseball as easily as possible. When: Practices are Monday-Friday ranging from 3:00-5:00 and8:00- 9:30 pm Games (7 inning inter-squad) once a month on a full size high school field (60; 90) to best condition the athletes for the upcoming high school dimension changes. Where: The coaches are highly qualified and desire to see the growth of every athlete who makes the team. All practices will be held at the Simi Valley Batting Cages to ensure the proper atmosphere for growth in each athlete. An online schedule will allow each student to sign up for practices that fit his schedule. Keep in mind, joining a development team requires a serious commitment from both player and parent. Why: A development team will give the 8th grader/prospective high school athlete the best chance of success because they will be receiving top of the line quality coaching from the areas best academies or high school programs themselves. Similar instruction from local academies or coaches would cost upwards of $100 per week or $400 a month. The development team will only cost $175 a month which allows the families to give their athlete the best possible chance of making the team. Players will have monthly progress reports taken and will be required to maintain a 2.8 GPA. If the athlete is unable to keep up with the rigorous athletic schedule or his academics, they will be placed on probation. If the athlete does not make improvements they will asked to leave the team. How: We are aware that some athletes have a relationship with their current instructors. Our coaching staff is willing to work with the outside coaching sources and develop the talent to his full potential.
